Dracula has no reflection in Jonathon's MirrorScene analysis specific to: Dracula
Summary:
In this scene, Harker, is seen shaving; however, when he hears Dracula talking to him, he realizes that he never saw him enter, and also that his reflection didn't show up in the mirror. out of fright, Harker cuts himself and Dracula licks the blood, and then throws the mirror out of the window so that Harker would no longer have access to it.
Why it matters:
Dracula's image not appearing in the mirror represents his lack of soul, or the isolation his soul is in. However, it also represents the lack of mortality that confines him to not being able to control what he does. It is in this scene that Harker begins to realize and become suspicious of Dracula, as everybody is; however, the fact that Dracula throws the mirror out the window is a symbol that Dracula's soul is in confinement and that Dracula is incapable of solving the problem on his own, forcing him to follow the laws and bounds that control a being like him. The fact that laws are confining Dracula makes him weak, which is shows when all he can do is throw the mirror out the window but cannot erase what Harker has seen and now realized about who he really is.
