Abstract Summary of the Project:
My Dracula project portrays important points that I feel are in the novel, and could be used on the actual AP exam as examples in certain essays. I went beyond the expectations for this project for my own usefulness because I knew that the more I did the more I would be prepared for the exams. I wanted to get to know the novel as if I had grown up learning about it, and through the process of the project I feel like I did just that.
I chose to make a website for my project because I felt like it would be an easier way to display all the information I wanted to, and in an organized and presentable fashion. Also, because I really enjoy making websites and figured that this would be a fun project to make a website for.
I thoroughly enjoyed this project because of the challenge it presented, but also because of how prepared it made me feel for the actual exam. Dracula was my favorite novel that we read this year, and to be able to do this big of a project on it made me more willing to do the extra work, as well as, it allowed me to have more fun while I was doing it. I think my favorite part of the project overall was making the Apples to Apples game, even though I did it with all of the novels and also as a side thing, it really helped me think about Dracula in a more complex way, as well as the other novels. I also enjoyed making the mini essay outlines because I feel that it helped me the most with my AP exam preparations; however, the process I took in completing the project helped me with the essay outlines as well because I did those last, after I had analyzed scenes, quotes, and characters in the novel. Overall, I really enjoyed the project because it was something different and because it helped me prepare for the exams a lot better than I would have otherwise done.
I feel like the hardest part of the project was finding the other articles, stories, and poems that could relate to the novel because it was difficult to think outside of the novel a little bit and try and find other things that could relate. However, at the same time I realized through the course of doing so when I compared the novel to these other stories, I was practicing some big time analysis because I was being forced to compare both of them through analysis. So in the end, this part of the project also helped me a lot because it required extensive analysis that will ultimately be needed in order to pass the exams.
I believe the main points of my project would be the essay outlines, and the themes that I talked about because they connect to all other aspects of the project and kind of tie it all together. When doing my themes, I was able to connect specific themes and characters to them in order to show the development of the theme itself throughout the novel, which helped me to create and organize multiple essay outline ideas to even the most abstract prompts. The themes forced me to think and analyze more, so that I was able to quickly think of and create mini essay outlines for essays that, if given on the exams, I could use and get higher essay scores on. I also feel like my connections to the other stories and poems is a main point of the project for me personally because I learned so much and had to think a lot harder for that part of the project than any other part, however, I feel like the connections I made are more of a highlight for just me, and that they may or may not help the other students quite as much as they did me.
Overall, I really enjoyed doing this project and in doing it I gained a greater love and understanding for Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula.
Thanks for viewing my website! I hope it taught you more about Dracula.
