Manipulation and how it identifies Harker in the beginning of the novel
The Idea of Manipulation is huge in this novel, it teaches many of the characters and even states Stoker's idea that we, as a society, are too easy manipulated and tricked be evil when we shouldn't be. In relation to Harker, however, this theme serves as an initiation in his character development. He was, before, innocent in thinking or not thinking about the warnings he got when traveling to Dracula's castle, or he thought about them but just pushed them aside because he was on a business trip and wouldn't let his society down. Yet, in continuing to go to Dracula's castle he was letting his society down, he was causing the horrors of Dracula to spread, and he didn't even acknowledge it. When Dracula quickly gained control of Harker it represented the grasp that evil can have on everybody even when we are doing what we are supposed to, like Harker was when he traveled to Dracula's castle.
