1- "He is here, and we know his purpose"
This quote plays a pivotal role in the novel because the control Dracula once had is suddenly overcome as Van Helsing and the others discover Dracula's true plans. This quote serves as a shift in control for the novel, before Dracula had control over his surroundings and the people around him; however, at this point, he loses all sense of control over his surroundings and he is seen as weak. It supports Stoker's assertion that good overcomes all evil.
2- "...there was a look of peace..."
This quote is important to all of the characters individually because it gives a sense of resolution to all of the characters. This "look of peace" on Dracula's face as he dies is Dracula's resolution because his soul is finally free from bondage, and is no longer trapped in evil, but it is also a resolution to all the other characters as they have overcome the evil that Dracula symbolizes in everyday life.
3- "I laid the flowers I had on my dear mothers breast"
This quote is important to Lucy's character development because at this point she has finally discovered what is truly happening to her, and that there is nothing she can do about it. It serves as an initiation point for Lucy, which states a lot about her character, that it took something drastic for her to realize what is happening to her, and who she is becoming. It also shows the theme of motherhood and the love a daughter has for her mother, which is later twisted as Lucy becomes the "bloofer lady" and portrays the theme of an extremely twisted idea of motherhood.
4- "...with a languorous, voluptuous grace, said..."
This quote characterizes a vampires presence, as a temptation and as evil. The idea presented in this quote, that vampires are symbols of evil and temptation, is used throughout the novel to show the power of evil and temptation over everybody and how that power and temptation can control a being, but that if you are good, you have the power to avoid and overcome such temptations.
5- "..I am a prisoner"
This quote shows strong character development in Harker as he is finally realizing that he is "a prisoner" and that he is not going to be set free. Before this point, Harker was a representation of most in society who just do what they are responsible for, but at this point he is displayed as a stronger character because he acknowledges and realizes that he was wrong and that he should have listened to all of the warnings he was given about Dracula's true desires.
6- "...bloated face, blood-stained and fixed with a grin of malice"
This quote characterizes Dracula as a dead man physically through his "bloated face"; however, also as some sort of living being which is displayed through his "grin of malice" that shows that inside he is evil because all of the good that once contained him was no longer present. It shows that Dracula is different and abnormal from the rest of society, and therefore should be watched over to make sure he doesn't do anything horrific.
